Bret Gustafson has practised as a court lawyer for the last 27 years. He was a litigation partner at Kensington Swan from 2000 to 2009. In April 2009 he moved from practice as a barrister and solicitor to practice as a barrister sole and has chambers at Level 31 of the Vero Centre in Shortland Street Auckland. Bret has appeared as senior counsel in the Privy Council and in two Supreme Court cases, winning all three. In the last two years Bret has been instructed on 4 appeals to the Court of Appeal and has won 3 of those appeals. Bret regularly advises on commercial disputes including shareholder disputes, PPSA issues and banking and insolvency law. He appears regularly in mediations, arbitrations and in the High Court on injunction applications and trials.
Georgina Toomey, General Manager NZ and Practice Group Leader, LegalVision New Zealand
Georgina is the General Manager for LegalVision New Zealand and a Practice Group Leader, specialising in corporate and commercial law. She has significant experience having previously worked in the specialist corporate teams at a number of top-tier firms in New Zealand, and acting for clients in a variety of industries. Georgina has particular expertise in capital raising, mergers and acquisitions, business structuring and shareholding arrangements, and acts for startups, SMEs and corporate clients. Georgina also regularly advises on Companies Act, NZX and securities law compliance, as well as having experience advising on foreign investment into New Zealand and broader commercial law matters. Georgina works closely with other LegalVision practice areas to ensure her clients receive appropriate and specialist advice in regard to all key aspects of their business. Outside the office, Georgina can be found enjoying New Zealand’s backcountry either mountain biking, trail running or skiing. Georgina hold a Bachelor of Laws (Hons), University of Auckland and is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association Inc, Institute of Directors New Zealand (MInstD).
