Nicholas Bland, Senior Associate, Simpson Grierson
Nick is a senior associate in the tax group. He advises on all aspects of New Zealand's domestic and international tax law, including corporate and personal income tax and withholding taxes, double taxation conventions, GST (New Zealand's value-added tax), and customs duties and tariffs. Nick works closely with the firm's corporate advisory, commercial, banking and finance, local government, and commercial property groups, providing advice to a wide range of clients. This includes input into due diligence exercises, structuring advice, and contractual drafting for business acquisitions, business divestments, and other transactions. It also includes liaising with Inland Revenue on behalf of clients in relation to tax compliance and dispute resolution matters and rulings, and making submissions on tax policy developments. In addition, Nick is an expert in relation to charities and not-for-profit organisations. He provides extensive advice to such organisations, and to corporates and other clients involved with them, in relation to both tax and general matters. He regularly deals with the Charities Commission and Inland Revenue on such matters.


Ms. Silvia McPherson, Partner, Dentons
Silvia is a senior member of New Zealand’s private wealth team. She specialises in asset protection, business succession planning, trust and charity law. Her clients are mostly private individuals and trustees with varied and often complex needs. Silvia has significant international experience gained in the UK market where she provided a range of trusts, private client, tax and charity law advice to high net worth individuals, trustees of private, statutory and commercial trusts, financial institutions and charities. Silvia also advised corporate clients with transactions where trusts were an integral part of structuring proposals. She draws on this expertise to provide commercially sound and sensible solutions to her clients.


Steven Moe, Partner, Parry Field Lawyers
Steven Moe is a Partner at Parry Field Lawyers with a focus on 'for purpose' organisations ranging from social enterprises to charities, NFPs and religious groups. He has worked as a lawyer for 20 years including 11 years overseas based in Tokyo, London, and Sydney and since 2016 has been based in Christchurch. He is Director of a charitable company and is Chair of Community Finance (impact investing with a social housing focus). He writes on purpose and impact for Spinoff, hosts seeds podcast with 260+ interviews of inspiring people from across Aotearoa and wrote the book “Social Enterprises in New Zealand: A Legal Handbook”. 


Mr. Henry McClintock, Partner, BDO
Originally from the UK, Henry studied law before training and working as a Chartered Accountant in London and then moving to Wellington. He now has over 22 years’ experience in auditing and assurance services. Henry works mainly in the small and medium enterprise market, around a wide range of industries to provide sound technical and business advice. He is a Public Benefit Entity specialist and is the previous Head of Not for Profit services at BDO in New Zealand. He works with a large number of National Charity and National Association clients. He has spoken at a number of conference on fraud and risk management in the Not for Profit sector. Clients describe Henry as having a down to earth and practical approach. He is hands on and likes to get involved. He really likes getting to know his clients, to get a great understanding and develop a strong interest in what they do and how he can help. Ms. Theresa Donnelly, Legal Services Manager, Perpetual Guardian
Theresa Donnelly graduated from Auckland University in 1992 and has over 30 years’ experience in private practice, government and in-house Legal. Theresa is currently the Legal Services Manager at Perpetual Guardian, and is a recognised Elder Law expert. Theresa is formerly from Public Trust (Team Leader) and the Ministry of Social Development, where she was lead Senior in their Public Law Team responsible for advice in relation to Older People’s Policy and the Office of Senior Citizens. She is a regular presenter and speaker for professional groups such as Legalwise, NZLS/CLE, ADLS, STEPS, CCH and other professional organisations.


Ms. Shan Wilson, Partner – Pro Bono, Simpson Grierson
Shan is Simpson Grierson’s dedicated pro bono partner, a role that was created at the start of 2020. Shan is focused on developing Simpson Grierson’s pro bono practice, expanding its scope and ensuring our pro bono efforts deliver great outcomes for the community. She leads and encourages our legal staff to find opportunities to give back as part of their professional experience. Prior to taking up this role, Shan was a partner in Simpson Grierson’s employment law team, clocking up 28 years of experience advising many leading businesses and public sector organisations. She also worked extensively with the education sector advising Principals, school boards and ISNZ. Outside of her legal roles, Shan has maintained a wide involvement in the community. She sat on the Board of both a primary school (Te Matauranga School) for a number of years and currently Chairs the Board of Governors of a secondary school (King’s College). Through-out her legal career Shan has also taken up other opportunities to contribute into the community, from being a Committee Member for the Auckland Women Lawyers Association as a junior solicitor, to sitting on the Board of the Auckland YWCA for several years.


Mr. Stewart Donaldson, Principal Policy Advisor, Inland Revenue – Te Tari Taake
Stewart Donaldson is a fellow chartered accountant and lives in Wellington. He has worked for the New Zealand Charities Commission as an advisor and for the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission as the director of compliance and reporting. From 2016 Stewart has been a Principal Policy Advisor at Inland Revenue. Stewart has been a board member for several charities and not-for-profits.
